SPACETIME, the third long player from Brisbane quartet The Double Happiness, launches the crew into a bold new frontier of sound.

Inspired by an eclectic mix of 1960’s tv & films, unusual journeys and quirky encounters, SPACETIME delivers a very familiar sense of nostalgia, combined with new dimensions to song writing and arrangements. The album opens with Adele Pickvance (The Go-Betweens) on vocals, providing an official welcome and cementing her place in the lineup.

SPACETIME is a fully energised listening adventure, which speaks to the live recording process used - a first for the band. The Double Happiness’s love of surf guitar licks, reverb and spaghetti westerns can still be found on such tracks as ‘Octopus’, and ‘Piroshki’, and in the epic ending to the ever-so-cheeky - ‘Lust In Space’.

SPACETIME is a fun-filled trip. Fans of the band, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, will recognise the signature jangle, (courtesy of Kristin’s prized Gretsch 12 string), which heralds the opening moments of the first single - ’Sister Bertrille’. The nod to the 1967 sit-com, “The Flying Nun” is coupled with the band’s love of the Dunedin Sound and the record label which bears its name. The darker, post-punk elements of the record carve out their own places in ‘Not A Saint’, ‘Message Strange Phone’ and ‘Arrivederci’.

Kristin and Peter’s familiar call/response vocal arrangements are complimented beautifully by Adele’s ethereal BV’s, most notably on the final track, ‘The Wisdom of Edgar’. The angelic harmonies take the finale to a hypnotic locked groove, which allows the listener to linger just a little longer.
